Most Fascinating People of 2007

SO tonight the special airs with the top 2 being revealed tonight. Possible suspects: Britney, Barry Bonds, Stephen Colbert, Ann Coulter, Hugo Chavez, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, and me ( I can dream can't I?). For reasons I think Barbara might see them as fascinating, that's my list.

The Problem with Adults

With the holiday season approaching- we are once again reminded of how stupid adults are.
Yes, mind you I am an adult, but when it comes to this subject, I am far from stupid.

Winchester, MA- A principal has canceled a field trip to see "Miracle on 34th Street" performed at a local theater. The reason, some parents complained. It's too focused on "Santa Clause", and they found it offensive.
Respectfully to those parents- go bite yourself. No wonder we have such hatred in this country. You're not teaching your kid tolerance, you're teaching ignorance. Yes, I am Catholic and celebrate Christmas. That doesn't mean for one second that I won't be teaching my daughter about the other celebrations that take place at the same time. She should know how other religions celebrate at this time. Not ignore the differences her friends may have.

These are the modern day Scrooges. These are the people that make it miserable for everyone else. What have you proved? That you can bully a class of 7th graders? Must make you feel big, stand tall and be proud. These are the parents that no longer hear the jingle of the bell from the Polar Express. These are the parents that don't believe in magic or miracles. These are the parents that want their kids to be little adults rather than kids.

In a day and age where love and tolerance should be at an abundance, it is hanging on by a thread. Why are you so angry at Christmas? Did you not get that puppy at age 9 that you wanted? That's no reason to take it out on the younger generation.

Attention the the school that my child will be attending in the future: If any of this goes on while she's in school, expect a call from my civil rights lawyer. Why should we be discriminated against because of the few unhappy souls out there?

Lighten up, let the kids be kids, they have long enough in their life to be miserable adults.

The blonde thing...

This not a racist post- it is not meant to be offensive, and if you take it that way, I'm just stating an opinion I'm entitled to.

For all you ladies (and men) who are obviously not blonde, please stop dying it that color. It's hard to take someone seriously when then talk of being proud of their race, and then they walk in with a screaming blonde head of hair. Really, do you think the world can't tell you weren't born with that color? Why can't you be proud of the fact that you have black hair or brown hair?
I just think it's ridiculous that you think you need to be something you aren't. Don't give me that free to express myself junk either. Coloring your hair in a color that would never represent your race is not expressing yourself, it's being something that you're not, it's saying, I'm not proud of who I am, I want to be someone else.
Be proud of who you are, where you come from, and the race you are, not the race you want to be.
Why do we care Part 2-

Why is the media so fixated on Christina and J-Lo being pregnant? More so why are they so fixated that the haven't "officially" announced it? Isn't that their choice? If they don't want to announce it to the world, that's their business. Sure you can tell that they are, so shouldn't that be good enough? Why do we have to be up in their business all the time? Pregnancy and having a baby is a personal thing, even when you are a celebrity. Shouldn't we just wish them well, hope they have a happy, healthy pregnancy and be done with it rather than hound them for every detail.
Maybe we should focus more on our own lives and less on theirs.

I can't stand the rain-

Don't you just hate days when it's pouring like cats and dogs? Then on top of then it's freaking cold? Those are usually the days that you have a hundred things to do. Life sucks sometimes.

And so it begins....

Officially today is Nov. 1st. Unofficially, it's the beginning of the Christmas season (jeez). It's like the cougar pouncing on the gazelle. I guess Thanksgiving is no longer a holiday at this point.
I really wish retailers would stop shoving Christmas down our throats in October, even before Halloween is over. Sign the groundhog saw his shadow, another 6 more weeks of Christmas.
Don't get me wrong I love Christmas, I would just like to celebrate it after we have Thanksgiving rather than before.

Fans-

Upon watching the final moments of the World Series again (God Bless Tivo), there's something I noticed. The Rockies fans were strangely optimistic in the final inning. They were cheering for the weirdest things. Those freakin' towels, they'll do you in every time.
Oh and next time, find your own chant and don't steal ours.
It's a good time to be a sports fan in Boston......
Thank you Red Sox!

Silent Scream

I have to get this off my chest. Britney Spears. Train wreck, pop star hasbeen. She cares about nothing but herself.
Being the mother of a 2 year old ( the same age as one of her kids), there is nothing I wouldn't do for my child. Jump through a ring of fire, you betcha. She doesn't love or want those kids, if she did she would be doing everything the judge has asked of her. Yet time and time again, she's blowing off what she should be doing to get her kids back.
The dancers for her tour- blown off 3 times because Miss Brit didn't make it to the studio to audition them.
The album, she phoned it in. The cover is a copy of the single cover for "Gimme More"- she didn't even come up with a decent cover.
The video for "Gimme More"- if you've seen it, you'll understand- she phoned that in too. Where's the big dance number? Where's the oomph? There is none, swinging around a stripped pole is not a good music video.
Dear fans, she doesn't care- maybe one day you too will wake up and realize that- you're enabling her. Sure, I feel bad when I see her swarmed by photogs, but there are other celebrities that can handle it much better than her.
Some say "I like the music, I could care less about what she does in life", but by supporting her less than stellar music career, you are supporting the choices she makes in life.
The girl needs help, but won't do anything to fix her situation. It's time to kick her in the pants and make her realize that we need to turn our backs on her until she straightens up.

Just give-

I'm getting on my bandwagon- the holiday's are approaching. Give what you can to a charity this season, just remember someone is depending on our generosity.

OMG I hate people

I seriously have absolutely no tolerance for people that think they are the only person on the planet.

Let me give a few examples:
People in the crosswalk, I totally understand that I am to let you cross the street. You have the right of way. BUT- if you are crossing the street at a pace slower than a snail stuck in molasses, I have the right to bump you (just a little) with my car. If you step out in front of my car with absolutely no clue that there is a car coming (you're on the cell phone, you're talking you you're best friend as the two of you cross, or you just feel that the world should stop for you no matter what) I take issue with that. Respect works both ways, I should be able to run you over (kidding).

People in other cars- here's my favorite, you pull out in front of me and then wave to me like I let you out- I have another gesture for you.
Then there are the drivers that are behind you, pass you get in front of you just to get off the very next exit. What does that prove? you can get there 30 seconds faster? Big Deal.

Maybe if you had more respect for your fellow man, I wouldn't have to put up with such idiots.
Does it have to be that loud?

Honestly, I can't understand why a car stereo needs to be so loud that my whole house shakes when a car drives by. You don't look cool, you just look plain stupid, and you'll be totally deaf in 5 years.

Hey Lane Bryant

You new jeans sizing- SUCKS.
I went in there the other day because someone gave me a gift certificate for my birthday. All I wanted was a new pair of jeans for the fall. Easy right? Pop in, get my size and pay and I'm outta there! WRONG!
The geniuses at Lane Bryant have now come up with a new way to screw with the fat woman.
Their sizes now are bases on you being "fitted" for the "right" jean. So now I gotta get some sales chick to measure both my waist and hips (like being overweight isn't hard enough already). Now I have to figure out what size I am (1-10 , not the traditional sizing the rest of the world is used to). PLUS I have to figure out if I'm a yellow, blue, or red. I kid you not, it's like taking a freakin' test just to buy a pair of jeans.
So the girl tells me I'm a yellow and hands me my "new" size. By this time I'm so frazzled and my toddler is getting restless. I quickly try them on and go and buy them.
Here's the problem, the jeans weren't right. When I wore them in the "real world" they were loose in the waist and tight in the hip area. For the 2 hours that I actually wore them, I was so miserable. Partly my fault for not taking more time in the fitting room, but the sales chick should have pick the correct jeans for me, these were obviously not the right "color" ( I should have known because I hate yellow, there was no way I could have been a "yellow").
SO now I have to go back to the store and exchange them for either a "blue" or "red". Jeez what a pain in the ass, all I wanted was a simple pair of jeans, not all this hassle.
Lane Bryant, I'm begging you, please go back to the traditional sizes we're all happy with.
Take some responsibility

Attention pet owners- can you be a little responsible for your pets?
I am so sick of people who get pets and then neglect them. Believe it or not, they are not independent free thinkers, they need you. Don't leave your pets outside for hours while you're not home. I've seen my neighbor's dogs escape from the yard 4 times now. Three of those times, I rounded them up, and got them back into the yard. When I went to ring the bell, no one was home- all three times.
Today, as hard and as mean as it might be, I just watched as those dogs ran the neighborhood. Finally someone came out of the house and chased them down. Now what would have happened if one of those dogs would have gotten hit by a car? You can be darn sure the dog owner would have blamed the driver.
Pets are a huge responsibility, if you don't have the time to dedicate to them, don't get one and do the pet and you a favor.
All this over a Lapel Pin?

So Barack Obama says that he won't wear an American flag lapel pin. This is the big flap of the week? Since when do you have to wear a pin to "prove" you're proud to live here? It's a PIN, a piece of jewelry.
The irony of the whole thing- all the "journalists" that were giving him crap over this - not one of them was wearing that pin on their lapel either. Those in glass houses should not throw stones.

Thank you Lewis Black
Do we really need 900 debates?

These politicians are wasting our time and theirs. They say what we want to hear, then get into office and do what they want.
I still say Stewart/Colbert in 2008
Stop Screwing with My Holidays

I am so sick of people getting "offended" over holidays.
Halloween is a holiday for kids. It's for them so they can get dressed up, and gorge themselves on candy. Stop putting a Satanic meaning to it. We can't celebrate it in schools anymore because someone got offended by it. I am so sick of people treading on something that's supposed to be fun. Everyone has a freakin' stick up their butt.
Enjoy life, have fun, there is too much turmoil and strife in the world as it is. Let the kids be kids and have fun. Let them enjoy life. There is too much pressure today to not offend anyone or hurt their feelings. I don't have time for that. Stop crying that it will hurt your kid's psyche.
People need to grow up and deal with life, stop whining, lighten up and get over it.
I can't wait for Christmas!
So tired of Celebrities

Honestly I am so sick of hearing every minute detail of celebrities lives. Why do we care so much? There are more pressing issues in the world that we need to deal with - time to get serious about those issues. I could care less that Britney Spears woke up late today.
I never want to get that call

Here we go again, another shooting at a school. All because a student was suspended.
Children of today- life is not as bad as you think that it is. A suspension is nothing in the grand scheme of things. The jerk that is picking on you today is going to end up bald and alone. Packing a gun is not the solution.
Listening to students saying they were calling their parents telling they love them because they thought they were going to get shot - rips my heart out. I never want to get that call from my child.
Parents talk to your kids, let them know that there are worse things out there than getting in trouble in school. Things can be worked out without violence, pay attention to and listen to your kids when they say they are having problems. Sometimes they newed to know you may have gone through the exact things they did when you were their age.

It makes me sick

As a mom to a toddler, I can't fathom in my mind why you would kill your own child. I've said this before, but it seem like we've gotten into this pattern again where parents are killing their kids because they are going through "stressful life changes".
A woman here in MA poisons her kids then stabs herself. She was going through a lot in her life and was "distressed". If you're that distressed, kill yourself and leave the kids alone. You're still alive and they're dead.
The woman in Ohio who drugged her kids the Benadryl, marked their hearts with an "x", shot them and then herself. All because she was going through a divorce.
To the lady who left her kids in the car, while she went to work- they died from the heat, you put them in plastic bags and stored them under your sink. You deserve the same punishment.

On my worst day, I could never imagine looking into my daughters eyes and even remotely think of killing her. She's what gets me through those times. You truly have to be an animal to do this to your own child.

The Film Industry

Here is my next rant.

Movies suck. Especially this summer. It just seems to get worse every year.

"The Transformers", really? Come on this is just some guys childhood fantasy to make this movie-how stupid. The cartoon rocked.

My major beef- "Hairspray". Does anyone realize that this is basically a remake of a remake? The original was campy and fantastic. The Broadway musical kicked it up a notch by adding an original score. This remake is ridiculous. John Travolta as Edna? Are you kidding? He just looks hideous. Edna is not supposed to be a pretty woman, but he's just hideous. If you want to see this movie, spend the extra money and see the live production if it comes to your town- it's gonna be worth it to see it live.

I just saw a trailer for "Underdog" - really, do the production companies have nothing better to spend their money on? Again, go rent the old cartoons, they're much "better" than this crap.

My second major beef- I just read Paramount is going to remake "Footloose". WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!!!!!!! Come on, Kevin Bacon IS Ren McCormick. End of story.

Jeez, the entertainment industry need to be shaken up.
Music Industry

This is the first of many rants to come about the entertainment industry. Let's start with music.

Lets' face it- the music industry sucks. It's all about the all mighty dollar and not about the actual music. If it were about music, we'd have a lot better stuff to listen to on mainstream radio. Most acts today are "cookie cutter" acts that have absolutely no talent to speak of. Those that do have talent, get no help or promotion from their record label and often fall by the wayside which is a total shame. There are so many great singers out there, but unless you're listening to independent radio, or the internet stations, you'll never hear them.

Let's take the "big controversy" this year. Kelly Clarkson telling Clive Davis that she was gonna put out her album the way she wanted, not the way he wanted it to be. Well, I'm a Kelly fan, and I bought the CD- it's fantastic. I'm not saying this because I like her, it's a really good , dark disc. Now instead of being proud of the fact that she actually wrote all the songs herself, they wanted more of that "cookie cutter" pop for her disc. Well, now they've pulled out any money for promotion for her disc. Screw them- they're missing out on a golden opportunity to actually step out of the mold and show what music really is about.

Why do think all these 80's bands are reuniting and making money? Because people my age are so sick of the crap out there right now. I'd rather spend my money on a Genesis reunion than see some teeny bopper strut around the stage in nothing more than rags.

I would only hope that some day the music industry would wake up and change thinks around. Alas, I don't think that's ever going to happen. Sucks, doesn't it?

Death and Dying

The say the only 2 sure things in life are Death and Taxes. We all know we have to pay taxes and dread it, but how much do we think about death?

I've lost a really good neighbor this week. He we the kindest man anyone could know. Unfortunately he was stricken with cancer and just couldn't put up the fight anymore.

Which got me to thinking- is it better to linger or just go all of a sudden? Morbid I know, but it made me ponder the choices.

I've experienced the loss of friends and family both ways. Death is never easy for those left behind, but for me, it's harder to come to grips with it when it just happens suddenly.

This happened with my grandfather and to this day, I still haven't gotten over the loss. It was so unexpected, and I feel that I never got to let him know what he truly meant to me. People say "time heals.." but in some cases it really doesn't.

My neighbor on the other hand, passed away slowly, in comparison. He was surrounded by his family. I know it's hard to watch, and you don't want the person to suffer, but that is the way it should be in your final hours, surrounded by the ones who love you. I know we don't get to make that choice, but in a "perfect" world that's the way it should be.

You were a good man Fred, you will be missed by many.

Big Problem

There is a mom here in MA that was serving in the Military when she found out her daughter was in danger from her father. So this mom put in for a leave/discharge so she could make sure her daughter was safe and take the measures to ensure the father had no access to hurt the daughter.
Well the leave never came down from administration and she left to take care of her daughter, now she's in danger of going to jail.
This in my eyes is just wrong- she filed the paperwork, they never got back to her, she needed to make sure her daughter was safe. The safety of your children comes first- what would of happened if she waited? Would her daughter be alive? I can tell you I wouldn't take that chance.

A message for Justin

I am so proud of you today. You fought your way back after that accident to make it to that graduation stage today.
I am honored to be your cousin, I will be right there cheering you on as you receive your well deserved diploma today.
We all love you dearly and can't wait to see you walk across that stage- Congrats cousin on all your hard work.
The war in Iraq

So congress caved last week in sending a message to the President. Now he has his money, and we go on losing our sons and daughters.
All politicians are the same- there is no one willing to stand up and fight the good fight anymore. They all pander to one another, nothing ever changes. And we give up hoping and just cope with it day by day.
Deep down we are a defeated nation- we have given up all hope. All those soldiers are dying in vain and no one here has the willingness to stand up for what's right and end this thing once and for all.
Crazy

I heard a news story yesterday that made me crazy.
It happened in Illinois - 5 high school seniors did not receive their diplomas. You ask why? Did they pull a prank that went wrong? Did they fail to get good grades? NO. Simple fact- their families cheered for them as they crossed the graduation stage.
The school has a "no loud applause" policy, even made the kids sign a contract about it. WHAT???? Now these kids have to do community service to get their diploma.
Sorry Charlie, I'm paying my taxes which pays for the schools staff salaries- you better be damn sure that when my daughter walk across that stage, I'm gonna be the loudest one there.
Graduation is a time of celebration- lets admit it, none of us wants to sit through those long speeches, we just want to see the kids graduate.
For God's sake give these kids their diplomas and lets focus on more important things.

A Fantastic Opportunity

I'm going to see Robin Williams tomorrow night. I am on cloud 9. I am bursting with excitement, just knowing I'm going to be in the same room as him. I hope he does a meet and greet after his set, it will be a fantastic opportunity to shake hands with a comedic giant.

It's Time for This to End

Honestly, I was one of the few people who in the beginning believed that the Iraq war was the wrong thing. I was called unpatriotic and a traitor. How could I go against the President? We had to go after those "evil doers" no matter what. You're not supporting the troops. On the contrary, I was supporting them by not wanting them to loose their lives in a senseless war.
Now 4 years later people have changed their tune, amazing.
I am weary of seeing day after day the names of our soldiers, some barely adults, being flashed across the screen because they have lost their lives. How many more family's have to grieve the loss of a loved one before the President wakes up and brings these poor kids home? Everyone has told him different strategies for Iraq, yet he seems to live in this soundproof bubble, unaware of what anyone is saying to him. We're "losing", we've been losing for a very long time. We've lost lives, we've lost allies, we've lost respect.
Mr. President, open you're eyes, you said, "You're either with us or against us", sir, no one is with you anymore. Listen to us, listen to the Study group, listen to the generals, listen to your own party, everyone is against you.
Please don't let another innocent American or Iraqi die in vain for your war.
